It is located on front street near 0 Duvall St making it super close to bars, clubs, restaurants, museums, shopping, etc. The hotel has on-property access and booking for water activities, bikes, carts, and scooters. All services were easy to obtain and quickly performed. The was pristine with two balconies, king bed, beautiful bath with huge shower and all the usual amenities in a high end room. Beautiful property location with gorgeous view of the ocean. As long as you have resonable expectaions you will enjoy this resort. I have no idea why there seems to be a coffee shortage at this hotel. In fairness to the hotel, other areas were quite nice, the pool, outside pool chairs and sitting areas were really nice. There are three hotels in this area that are all fairly comparable The Hyatt was Expensive, and for a resort like this you expect it to be pretty nice. We were told by locals that the homeless live on Wisteria island straight out from the hotels, not their fault but something to keep in mind durning your visit. We observed homeless daily on the peir and at the beach. Security was definately something I thought about with the homeless visitng the public beach adjacent to the hotel. Hyatt Centric Key West 5/23 Wonderful views, Hotel is open air, the room doors open to the hallway outside, stair case to the pool area runs next to each balcony easily accessible by anyone with nafarious intent.

Attempts by the army to dispel the rumours fell on deaf ears. In Nigeria in 2017 for instance, a reported vaccination drive that was to be conducted by the army led to pandemonium as students fled and boycotted classes, fearing the military was using the campaign as a ploy to infect schoolchildren with monkeypox. In many countries, there is an historic trust deficit between the military and communities. In India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a lockdown of the whole country, an estimated 1.3 billion people, and authorities have said civilians risk being shot at if they do not comply with the lockdown order.įor Indian-administered Kashmir, which has been under lockdown for political reasons since August 2019, what does this mean? Is it possible to explain to people, and to expect them to understand, that suddenly the lockdown is meant to protect them and the rest of the country from a pandemic? We cannot, however, pretend that the military – not only in the countries mentioned above – has a good reputation if they have clamped down on communities numerous times in the past. They have done phenomenal work in many parts of the world as peacekeepers in protection of civilian sites and in response to natural disasters. Historic trust deficitĪs with institutions, the security forces are not a problem per se. The fact that the government-created COVID-19 Taskforce is led by the retired general responsible for the military coup in 2017 is enough to send chills up the spines of many. Today, the same military is expected to come in defence of the population against the pandemic. Last January, when the government raised the price of fuel by 150 percent, protests quickly turned violent as civilians and security forces clashed. In Zimbabwe, a 21-day army-enforced lockdown began this week. In Uganda, motorbike drivers were hospitalised after being shot by police for violating movement restrictions. Riot police previously fired tear gas at civilians heading for a ferry in Mombasa as they attempted to enforce a curfew. In Kenya, a 13-year-old boy was shot and killed by police while standing on his balcony in Nairobi during curfew. Similar stories have been reported across the continent. It has reportedly turned deadly in at least three cases. Although, to its credit, the government is also communicating with citizens regularly, the use of force has not helped build trust. Police went as far as firing rubber bullets at people who were going to the supermarkets – something deemed permissible as per the government’s regulations. ![]() So far, hundreds have been arrested by police for flouting isolation regulations many more, including the homeless, have been assaulted and harassed by security forces for failure to observe the order. More recently, memories of 2012’s Marikana massacre bring up more anxiety when officers with guns appear in an already heightened atmosphere. Memories of the military-enforced State of Emergency during apartheid are still fresh for many people. For many communities, especially in townships and high-density suburbs, the deployment of security forces means trouble. Last week, South Africa began a 21-day lockdown with the army out in the streets to enforce it. And everywhere from India to South Africa to the Philippines, states have deployed police forces and even the army to enforce them. ![]() It is no surprise that they try to be creative and use whatever means available to them to try and control the pandemic.įor most, the solutions have been isolation, quarantine and lockdown. ![]() But the reality in many countries – especially where security forces traditionally have a less than friendly reputation – is not as picture-perfect.Īs the epicentre of the COVID-19 pandemic continues to shift fast, and continues to overwhelm health systems in the global north, it is clear for many countries in the global south that their best bet to limit the impact is prevention. The romanticised implication is that in the space between COVID-19 and its potential victims, it is medics and security services who push back together to save lives.Ī similar theory is at the root of the growing trend where the military and police enforce government lockdowns to contain the spread of coronavirus. On the right, a health worker in a hazmat suit closes the door on the coronavirus, while on the left a police officer in a medical mask pushes back a horde of people. There is a sketch doing the rounds on Twitter: Two people standing in the centre of a hallway, back towards one another, each struggling to push a different door closed. ![]() MARATHON COUNTY: Psilomelane commonly forms dendrites and joint coatings throughout the Wausau Pluton (Falster, 1987). That’s an old requirement from gas cars that they carried over to the EV by default so their dealers can keep making money on service, even if no service is needed. Several owners in Europe have also reported similar messages prompting them to get a service that they clearly don’t need.ĭespite the mistake, Trost says that he is “very happy” with the e-tron, but he had an interesting comment about the implication for car dealers:īeyond the humor of the stupidity of this mistake, it does highlight how the traditional car companies still don’t really get BEVs. Here’s a picture of the dashboard that Trost sent to Electrek yesterday: “Oil change and inspection in 200 miles.” The other day, he was surprised when he got into his electric SUV and received an “inspection due” message telling him that his car needs an oil change: The Audi e-tron has been on the market in the US for almost a year now, and some owners are starting to put some decent mileage on those electric SUVs.Ĭarey Trost is one of those owners, and he’s nearing 10,000 miles on his Audi e-tron. So it’s rather surprising that Audi e-tron electric SUVs are warning their owners that they are going to need oil changes. Windshield Washing Fluid - Depending on the usage of windshield washing fluid, you should refill it as often as needed. An oil change is one of several maintenance items that electric vehicle owners don’t have to worry about. Normally, the brake fluid in electric cars should be replaced after running about 40,000km(25,000miles)ģ. Brake Fluid - A regenerative braking system relies on the brake fluid to work smoothly. You need to add and replace the coolant during the maintenance.Ģ. Coolant - Electric cars rely on coolant flowing through the thermoregulation system to prevent the batteries from overheating. Though your electric car does not need oil, it requires a routine check on these 3 fluids in EVs Ĭoolant, brake fluid, and windshield washing fluid.ġ. Electric cars use completely different drivetrains, so you will never have to worry about routine oil changes that are necessary for traditional cars. Any need for engine pistons, valves, and other moving parts that need to be lubricated, electric vehicle does not need regular oil changes. From all that metal-on-metal contact, atomic metal flakes are accumulated in the oil, which requires you to drain the old oil and add new oil not only to keep the gasoline-powered engine working smoothly, but for safety and longevity of the engine.Īn electric vehicle moves by consuming a battery while working an electric motor. In this way, the oil change is necessary to the engine for the close-tolerance interactions. The valves, pistons, and other moving components of an engine have to work smoothly past one-another at very high speeds. Traditional gas cars demand oil to wax the moving parts in their combustion engine. Electric cars use completely different drivelines, so you will never have to worry about the oil change topic during your EV maintenance tasks. ![]() If you just want to stay in a safe room alone, perhaps you can choose the smallest one.
